Born and raised in Saga, Japan, Rie Tsuji started on piano at the age of 6. By age 10, she was already composing original pieces on piano and was entered into the Japanese National Competition for Young Composers (J.O.C.). One of her original pieces became a required repertoire in the Yamaha School of Music piano book for teachers' final performance examinations.
From 1991-1998, she won several awards in the Japanese Music Competition for classical piano performance. During her senior year in high school, Rie had a chance to study at the Belarus Conservatory. While she was there, Rie was hand picked by the Piano Chair to perform at the program completion recital. After completing the Belarus Conservatory program, she enrolled in the Tokyo Conservatory and graduated with a Bachelor's of Music Degree in Classical Piano Performance.
Directly from Tokyo, Rie moved to Boston, Massachusetts to study jazz piano performance at Berklee College of Music, on scholarship and graduated with a music diploma majoring in Professional Music. Here she cut her teeth with the next generation of modern jazz musicians such as Andre Ward, Robin McEllhatten, Darren Barrett, among countless others. In January 2006, she joined R&B vocalist Eric Benet on his album tour.
Fresh after Eric's tours, Rie got hired through an audition as keyboard player for Beyonce's band. Since June 2006, she has been performing on television shows with her such as the Grammy Awards, American Music Awards, World Music Awards, MTV Music Awards, BET Awards, The View, The Today Show, Good Morning America, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, The Tyra Banks Show, The Oprah Winfrey Show, and countless others. Most recently she performed at the super bowl 2013. Rie also did the strings arrangement for Beyonce's show "I am yours…" in 2009 and the "Live at Roseland" in 2011. Rie also arranged and directed the strings for Beyonce's performance at the White House for President Obama in May 2010. She did 2 of her world tours and is currently on the "Mrs Carter Show" world tour as a piano/keyboard player/Assistant Musical Arranger.
