MOGAMI ON-STAGE DURING LOVE IN - A MUSICAL CELEBRATION
Audio producer Henry Austin seeks industry standard cablefor mission critical audio connections
San Diego, CA… For three days - September 6th through the 9th at the Birch North Park Theater - 60’s era music enthusiasts were able to bask in the glory of Love In - A Musical Celebration, a lively theatrical/performance recognition of the music of 1967. Featuring 60’s British Invasion greats Peter & Gordon, Jesse Colin Young (of the Youngbloods), Buddy Miles (formerly with Electric Flag and Jimi Hendrix), the legendary psychedelic band Strawberry Alarm Clock, and a host of additional artists, Love In - A Musical Celebration served as the performance foundation for an ambitious video project that that will ultimately be available on DVD. To ensure the greatest audio quality with all of its wired connections, Mogami cable was deployed.
“Love In-an Adams Entertainment production directed by Anthony Leigh Adams—also featured the talents of Tony Award-winning host Ben Vereen, along with performances by Grammy Award-winning guitarist Eric Johnson. Henry Austin, president of Escondido, CA-based Professional Production Associates, Inc. was the show’s audio producer. Austin, an industry veteran who serves as a consultant to equipment manufacturers in addition to overseeing the design, build, and implementation of audio systems for a wide range of live and studio projects, commented on the show and the decision to use Mogami cable.
“Love In was a really special endeavor that was inspired by the success of last year’s Primal Twang (www.primaltwang.com) project,” notes Austin. “In addition to some really electrifying performances, the show also included the projection of rare archival footage supplied by Wolfgang’s Vault (www.wolfgangsvault.com), which did wonders to further re-create the entire experience. With all the extraordinary musicianship this project encompassed, I wanted to make certain we had the best possible cable on stage with us. Mogami is recognized as the de-facto standard throughout the world’s greatest recording studios, and as Love In will ultimately go to DVD, I considered it essential for this project as well.”
For Love In - A Musical Celebration, Mogami had a commanding presence on stage. The Mogami cable assortment included 47 shielded quarter - inch to quarter-inch cables of various lengths for use on guitars, keyboards, direct boxes, and additional equipment. Further, a dozen 25-foot XLR microphone cables were utilized. While other cables will certainly be used for a project of this magnitude, the Mogami cables were deployed on the most critical “money” lines.”
Mogami uses pure OFC (Oxygen-Free Copper) for superior signal transmission in all its cables. Similarly, XLPE (cross-linked polyethylene) insulation is employed for the best signal transmission and audio clarity. Mogami Neglex™ audio cables are wrapped with an exclusive ultra high-density lapped spiral copper shield for 100% coverage - even when flexed - resulting in exceptionally low noise.
When queried about his preference for Mogami cable, Austin offered the following thoughts, “In addition to the sonic integrity the cable provides, I love the build quality and its low noise. Mogami cable provides the ideal tonal balance—clear and without coloration, and this typically results in increased presence. I also like the way the cable coils and the way it lays on the stage. This is important so that you don’t end up with a rat’s nest.”
“In terms of its RF (radio frequency) rejection characteristics,” continued Austin, “Mogami’s shielding is exceptional. Love—In was an RF rich environment. We were running in excess of a hundred channels, and this included a lot of lights and power distribution, so having the level of shielding from interference that the Mogami cable provides was extremely beneficial. The last thing I wanted to worry about was the cable. With Mogami’s support for this project, the wired lines were never an issue.”
